Day miles: 70
Trip miles: 2,854
Our first task for the day was to go to the end of the Lincoln Highway on the northwest corner of San Francisco - now a large park area. The picture below was taken in the park. A view of The Golden Gate Bridge is hidden by the tree to my left.
We then headed to Muir Woods, a preserve of large, old redwood trees. The drive over Mount Tamalpais on Route 1, the Shore Line Highway, is an exciting drive. The road has many hairpin curves with steep rises and drops. Riding that is a motorcyclist's dream. Johann led the way. Dale and I did quite well keeping up with him.
I love Muir Woods. I think this was my fourth time there. The trees are so tall and stately. The forest is quiet. And there are many hiking trails. We selected a trail that was about a 2.5 hour hike and completed it in 2 hours. We then headed for Muir Beach and a walk in the Pacific Ocean. Dale and Johann have driven coast to coast!!
We had dinner reservations at Scoma's - my favorite restaurant in Sausalito. I've been there five times. The restaurant sits on a pier out over the water and has a beautiful view of San Francisco across the bay. (Thanks to Arnie Dyck for taking me to Scoma's for the first time many years ago) Christian Nuss, a good friend of my son Mark, lives near Sausalito and met us for dinner.
We had a nice nighttime drive back over the Golden Gate Bridge and a good view of San Francisco at night.
