Day 2: Fulton IL to Ames IA

September 3, 2008
Day miles: 224
Cumulative miles: 505

We woke to cool temperatures. The morning temp was in the 50s; high for the day was in the mid 60s. The day was overcast with some sprinkles, but not enough rain to get into rain gear. What a difference from the 100 degree of yesterday. We also were out of the congested urban area and into the Midwest countryside. We went through a number of small towns, but in between we encountered very little traffic. It is in the small towns you begin see reminders of an earlier era - what things might have looked like when the Lincoln Highway was in its heyday.

Around mid-day we stopped in Cedar Rapids to visit a person Dale met through some business investments.

Iowa is beautiful even on a chilly cloudy day - meadows, rolling hills, and green corn and soy beans. It seems like they have had adequate rain.
