Talk about cold! This morning the temperature was 41 degrees!! By the time we had breakfast it warmed up a bit, but I still dressed warmly - T-shirt, flannel shirt, leather vest, motorcycle jacket, jeans, leather chaps, and warm gloves. The drive was beautiful though. I prefer cold weather for motorcycling - you can keep adding layers. In hot weather there is only so much to remove.
We have seen several windmill farms along the way. The second picture below shows windmills on the hilltop.
After traveling on the interstate for a while, we headed off on a local road that is part of the original Lincoln Highway route. We stopped by a reservoir for a break and to remove several layers of clothing. At the beginning of the day our altitude was around 6,500 feet. By the time we reached the reservoir we had descended about 2000 feet.
We arrived in Salt Lake City around 3:30. The temperature was 85 degrees - 44 degrees warmer than the temperature when I first walked out our hotel door in the morning. After checking into the hotel, I went to the tourist bureau to get sightseeing information. It did not take us long to decide we would stay an extra day. Before heading to dinner we took a tour of the Mormon Temple area. The tour was interesting but involved quite a bit of witnessing about the Mormon faith. All the guides are female missionaries aged 21-23. We had two guides - one from Eastern Germany and one from Los Angeles. The tour included going inside the Tabernacle. The second picture below is where the Mormon Tabernacle Choir performs. Unfortunately we will not be here for their Thursday rehearsal. However we will be able to attend an organ recital tomorrow at noon.
Brew pubs have become a favorite for dinner! Red Rock was recommended by someone at the visitor's center, so we went there. Between the three of us we tried every one of their local brews. My dinner was a warm shrimp salad and a side of pub fries to balance out the healthy salad.
